Starting in the 17th century BC, Egyptian funerary preparers wore special garments to protect the lower parts of their bodies from the underworld. These "Osiris Trousers" as they were called were woven from the same fabric as the mummification wrappings. The priests would perform an eleven day ritual to imbue the trousers with the spirit of Osiris. Later, in the mid 16th century BC, reproductions of Osiris Trousers became popular within the Thebes goth subculture.[1]
